Gilbert+ was born about 1449 in Delgaty, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Gilbert+'s father was William+ Hay and his mother is Beatrice+ Douglas. His paternal grandfather was Gilbert De La+ Hay and his paternal grandmother is Alice De La+ Hay; his maternal grandparents were James II+ Douglas and Beatrix+ Sinclair. He had a brother and three sisters, named William, Isabel, Elizabeth+ and Margaret+. He is the second youngest of the five children.General Notes
