Andrew was born about 1538 in Scotland. Andrew's father was George Hay and his mother is Margaret Robertson. His paternal grandfather was Thomas Hay and his paternal grandmother is Margaret Lyon; his maternal grandfather was Alexander Robertson and his maternal grandmother is Elizabeth Stewart.
