Margaret was born about 1551 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Margaret's father was James Douglas and her mother was Christian Montgomery. Her paternal grandfather was William Douglas and her paternal grandmother is Elizabeth Gordon; her maternal grandfather was John Montgomery and her maternal grandmother is Elizabeth Edmonstone. She had a brother and two sisters, named William, Janet and Helen. She is the youngest of the four children.General Notes
