Archibald was born about 1673 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Archibald's father was William Douglas and his mother was Anne Hamilton. His paternal grandparents were William Douglas and Mary Gordon; his maternal grandparents were James Hamilton and Margaret Feilding. He had a brother named James. He was the younger of the two children. He died on April 5th, 1754 in Pall Mall, Westminster, London, Middlesex, England. He was buried in Taplow, Buckinghamshire, England.General Notes
