"Matthias left Germany because of the Reformation, Believe it or NOT we are of the Royal house of Brandenburg and when most became adherents of the Catholic faith Matthias immigrated to America favoring the Protestant religion. About 1700 A.D. a Catholic procession was passing through the streets of Berlin. The procession was headed by a Loyalist who stood in favor with the reigning Prince of Brandenburg, who himself was a Catholic. Two Brandenburg brothers refused to take off their hats at the procession and were told to spoke contemptuously of the loyalist leader of the procession. They were later to hide in Holland because of this. Matthias who was Wlhelm Heinrich's brother, two sons of Salomon (one of the brothers to hide in Holland) later came to America and settled near Winchester, VA. Later 3 other brothers came, the last three were Henry, Jacob and John Martin Brandenburg. Wilhelm married in Holland and later brought his wife to America, his son being born on the way.
