Gregoria was born about 0865. Gregoria's father was Emperor Basileos I of the Byzantine Empire and her mother was Eudoxia Ingerina Decapolita of Constantinople. Her paternal grandfather was Konstantinos Porphyrogenetia and her paternal grandmother is Princess Pancalo of Armenia; her maternal grandparents were Emperor Inger (the Scandanavian) Theophilus and Theodara. She had a brother named Leon. She is the older of the two children.-
