Nicholas was born about 1081 in Stafford Castle,Staffordshire,England. Nicholas' father was Robert de Toeni Castellan of Stafford and his mother was Avice de Clare. His paternal grandparents were Roger I d'Espagne ('The Spaniard') Toeni Lord of Guerny and Godhilda Goodchild Adelaide of Barcelona. He had four half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Geoffrey de, William, Robert de, Berenger de Tosny Todeni, Alice Adeliza and Agnes de. He died in 1138.General Notes
