Adam Shipley, a thirteen year old native of the city of York, was"transported" to Maryland Colony as an indentured servant in Feb. 1668 byJohn Pawson, along with Christopher Shawn, John Browne, John Fish, ThomasMason, William Barton, Richard Flint, Richard Patterson, Thomas Wood, andJohn Dixon. Upon arrival in America, he served his seven years ofindenture in Anne Arundel County.
By Jan. 10, 1675, Adam had completed his indenture and was Granted hismandatory 50 acres of land, on which he planted Tobacco. On April 5,1679, he parlayed 4000 lbs. of that crop into an additional 500 acresalong the south side of the Severn River. This transaction was in theform of a deed of trust, which listed the Grantee as "Adam Shoplee, AnneArundel Planter", and the Grantor as "Cornelius Howard, Anne ArundelPlanter" (who became Adam's father-in-law). By the time of his death,Adam Shipley owned at least 1,000 acres of land in four counties ofMaryland: Anne Arundel, Howard, Carrol, and Baltimore.

It is believed that she was LoisHoward, whose family lived on land
