Melvin A. Laughlin 
Melvin A. was born on October 10th, 1810 in Knox County,Kentucky.1 Melvin A.'s father was John Abe Laughlin and his mother was Margaret Duncan. His paternal grandparents were James Laughlin and Mary Jane Dunkin; his maternal grandparents were John Duncan and Elinor Sharp. He had four brothers and three sisters, named John D., James A., Thomas S., Joseph S., Jane, Elinor Mary and Matilda. He was the second youngest of the eight children. He died at the age of 52 on July 15th, 1863 in Granny's Branch,McDonald County,Missouri.1 General Notes

Settled on Lower Trent Creek in McDonald County, Missouri in 1839.
He was killed by Federal Scouts at Granny's Branch during the Civil War.
It is believed colored people came with the family from Morgan County,Indiana.
Willa Laughlin Bowman remembers her papa, John Shipley Laughlin, sayinghe thought the Laughlin name was once McLaughlin but the Mc was droppedwhen they came to America.
