General Notes

Henry of Scotland, 3rd Earl of Huntingdon (1114-1152) was a Scottish prince and English peer. He was the son of King David I  David I, known as "the Saint", (1084 - May 24,1153), king of Scotland, the youngest son of Malcolm Canmore and of Saint Margaret (sister of Edgar Ætheling), was born in 1084. He married in 1113 Matilda, daughter and heiress of Waltheof, Earl of Northumbria, and thus gained possession of the earldom of Huntingdon.
On the death of Edgar, king of Scotland, in 1107, the territories of the Scottish crown were divided in accordance with the terms of his will between his two brothers, Alexander and David. Alexander, together with the crown, received Scotland north of the Forth and Clyde, David the southern district with the title of earl of Cumbria. The death of Alexander in 1124 gave David possession of the whole starting on April 27 of that year. .....  Maud, 2nd Countess of Huntingdon (1074-1130) was the daughter of Waltheof, Earl of Northumbria, the last of the major Anglo-Saxon earls to remain powerful after the Norman conquest in 1066. She inherited her father's earldom of Huntingdon and married twice.
Her first marriage was to Simon of St Liz in 1090. That line produced the fourth and seventh Earls of Huntingdon. He died in 1109 and Maud next married King David I of Scotland. His eldest son became King of Scotland as Malcolm IV <Malcolm%20IV%20of%20Scotland>
Malcolm IV (c. 1141- December 9 , 1165) was the eldest son of Henry, Earl of Huntingdon (d. 1152), son of King David I, and succeeded his grandfather David as king of Scotland in 1153. He was called the "Milk Maiden," and died unmarried and childless in 1165.
Not much is known of him, but he appears to have been an ineffective monarch. Though not evident at the time, he was also the last Scottish monarch to have a Scottish name. ..... David's second son became king in 1165 on the death of his brother, reigning as William I <William%20I%20of%20Scotland> William I (William the Lion, William Leo, William Dunkeld or William Canmore), (1142/1143 - December 4 1214) reigned as King of Scotland from 1165 to 1214. His reign was the longest in Scottish history. He became King following his brother Malcolm IV's death on 9 December 1165 and was crowned on 24 December 1165.
Traditionally, William founded Arbroath Abbey, the site of the later Declaration of Arbroath. He became known as "the Lion" because of his flag or standard, a red lion rampant on a yellow background. This went on to become the Royal standard of Scotland; the British Monarch when in Scotland still uses it today. The rampant lion also forms part of the Royal Standard of the United Kingdom. ..... Margaret, Maid of Norway (1283-1290), was queen of Scotland (1286-1290). The infant Margaret was the last ruler of the House of Dunkeld.
With the sudden death of Alexander III, Scotland was left without an obvious heir to the throne. At first, Alexander's wife Yolande declared that she was pregnant with an heir, countering the claims of two powerful nobles, Robert Bruce (father of Robert I of Scotland) and John Balliol, each of whom wanted the throne for himself. When it was discovered that Yolande was not really pregnant, it was decided that Alexander's only surviving descendant, his three-year-old granddaughter Margaret, would ascend to the throne under a regency of six nobles. .....
