Robert de was born about 1062 in Tutbury Castle,Staffordshire,England and his baptism took place in Charterley, Staffordshire, England.1 2   Robert de's father was Sir Henry de Ferrers and his mother was Dame Berta Roberts.  His paternal grandfather was Walchelin de Ferrers; his maternal grandfather is Engenulph Wn. Roberts. He had three brothers and two sisters, named William de, Henry de, Enguenulf, Amicea de and Emmeline de.  He died in 1139 in of Derby, Derbyshire, England.2

‌Robert de and Hawise de were married in a religious ceremony about 1087 in ,,Brittany,France.  They had three sons and five daughters, named William de, Walcheline de, Robert II De, Agnes de, Maud de, Hawise de, de and Isolda de.
