Catherine Louise Woolf 
Catherine Louise was born on January 31st, 1920 in Sulphur, Murray Co., Oklahoma.1 Catherine Louise's father is Raymond Burns Woolf and her mother was Mabel Clair Basham. Her maternal grandparents were James Alexander Basham and Nellie Mae McCrary. She had a brother named Raymond Burns. She was the younger of the two children. She died at the age of 76 on April 1st, 1996 in Venice, Sarasota Co., Florida.1 General Notes

Catherine Edgerton, 76, Venice, died April 1, 1996. She was bo
rn on Ja n. 31, 1920 in Sulphur, OK, and came to Venice 29 years ago fr
om Fort Le e, VA. She was a member of Lake Venice Golf Club and Myakka Pi
nes Golf Cl ub. Survivors include her husband, Eric R.; a daughter, Kath
leen Paxt on of Big Pine Key; a son, Eric R. Jr.; and two grandchildre
n. A gravesi de service will be held at 2 pm
Thursday at Venice Memorial Gardens, with visitation following at the fa

Information received 5 March 2001 from Edward Basham in Fort Worth, Texas:
Catherine was an infant when Mabel Basham Woolf and Raymond B. Woolf S
r. s eparated sometime in the early 1920's and finally divorced Mar
ch 2, 19 28 in Dallas, Texas. Raymond B. Woolf Sr. (my grandfather) was C
atholic a nd divorce was not considered an option in those days. Mabel li
ved with t he Patrick Fletcher family (Irish Catholics) in Dallas and th
ey helped h er raise her two children, Raymond and Catherine. Mabel to
ok back her mai den name of Basham for herself and her two children as so
on as she arriv ed in Dallas. These were difficult times for Mabel and h
er children.
Mabel married Orsen E. Paxton March 9, 1936 in Kaufman TX. My father Ra
ym ond Basham had married and was living in Dumas, Texas. Orsen was a L
t. Co lonel in the U. S. Army and had a most colorful background of h
is ow n. He was the only grandfather I knew of on my father's side unt
il I w as in my early teens and met Raymond Woolf Sr. at the Patrick Fletc
her ho me in Dallas.
Shortly following their marriage, Orsen was assigned to the Panama Can
al Z one about the time I was born, 1937. Orsen and Mabel lived on the Ar
my ba se in Panama until the early 1940's. During WWII Mabel and Orsen wo
uld vi sit occasionally and would bring a whole box of Hershey chocolate b
ars, qu ite a treat as only military personnel could purchase chocolat
e. Orsen Pa xton gave Catherine's hand in marriage and was a very good fa
ther to her.
Once retired from the Army the Paxtons moved to Asheville NC and Mabel
's m other Nellie lived with them until she died.
