REFN: 9573 [lillief.ged] Rev. Hiram C. Underwood who lived near the Crooked Sourwood, was sudd en ly and unexpectedly stricken with paralysis last Wednesday night abo ut 7 o 'clock while at Zion Church, dying the next day about 11o'clock a. m. He l ived 72 years, 2 months and 23 days. He leaves an afflicted wif e, two brot hers, one sister, two daughters and many othe near and de ar relatives a nd friends to morn his loss. He came to church that eveni ng apparent ly in his usual health and opened the services with an appreci ative religi ous talk and then called on a brother in the assembly to le ad in prayer, a fterwich when a sony had been sung the minister rose to co ntinue the servi ce. In a few moments brother was seen falling out of t he chair in wahin ch he was sitting in the rostrum. Immediately he was lif ted up by frien ds and carried to the other end of the church and soon aft erward was tak en to his buggy and carried home, a distance of about a mi le and a hal f. He spoke few sords after the stroke but soon became uncons ious . Aft er death his body was brought back to the church where the fune ral servic es were conducted by Rev. Lewis Warren, after which the body w as laid to r est in the Sprowls buring ground on Alex Fork of Pitman Cree k, Kentucky.
