Claude Garland was born on October 18th, 1912.1 Claude Garland's father was James Thomas Sprowls and his mother was Sarah Mattie Thompson. His paternal grandparents were Jesse Fielding Sprowls and Mary Jane Shofner. He had three brothers named Willie E., Archie Elmer and Junior Arnold. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 65 on May 31st, 1978 in Taylor Co., Kentucky. He was buried in Zion Baptist Church, Maple Taylor Co., Kentucky.1 1 General Notes
