Ellis Rhys was born on March 26th, 1912 in Ethel, MIssouri.1 Ellis Rhys' father was Richard Edward, Sr. Owen and his mother was Nina Irene Hazen. His paternal grandparents were John Edward Owen and Grace Jones. He had four brothers and a sister, named Richard Edward, Jr., Phillip Paul, Daniel Hazen, Edmund Prys and Hannah Irene.
