Living's father was Hilary O. Knott and her mother was Joanna Mae "Josie" Elder. Her paternal grandparents were Frederick Martin Knott and Sarah Jane (Jennie) Payne; her maternal grandparents are Joseph Henry Elder and Margaret Ellen Wood. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Joseph Lawrence, William Carl, Living, Living, Living, Mary Imogene and Mabel Rosalia.-
