Frances Graves was born about 1747 in ,Amherst, Va.1 Frances Graves' father was Aaron Higginbotham and her mother was Clara Graves. Her paternal grandparents were John Higginbotham and Frances Riley. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Samuel, Aaron, Tamasin, Mary Ann and Margaret. She was the second oldest of the six children.
