Raymond Jarrett Hallford of Big Spring died Saturday at Hopkinsville, KY.
Mr. Hallford was in the U. S. Army and details of his death had n
ot be en released as of late Sunday.
A native of Big Spring, he was born January 27, 1935.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Charles Hallford of Big Spring; h
is pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Hallford of Big Spring; four brothers, Jam

ay in Ho pkinsville, Ky., was to arrive here at 3:50 p.m. Thursday.
Rites have been set for Friday at 10 a. m. in the Dora Roberts Salva
ti on Army Citadel with his former pastor, Capt. R. E. Hall, Corsicana. B
uri al will be in the Trinity Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Nal
ley- Pickle Funeral Home.
Hallford, a veteran of some four years, and stationed at Ft. Campbel
l, KY ., was shot three times in the abdomen Saturday during an arguemen
t. Offi cers were seeking Wayne Lear, 24, of Clifty, Ky. at last repor
ts for quest ioning in the shooting.
Surviving Hallford are his wife, Georgia, and one son, Charles Hallf
or d. He also leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Hallford and sever
al bro thers and sisters.
Complete military rites will be observed at the graveside by an honor g
ua rd from Webb AFB. Pallbearers will be furnished by the base.

Arrangements are pending at the Nalley-Pickle Funeral Home where t

Details of the incident which claimed the life of Hallford were not ava
il able here Monday. It was known that he was struck by pistol slu
gs in t he abdomen at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The incident happened off bas
e. Hallfo rd has been in the Army for the past four years.
He was born here Jan. 27, 1935, and is survived by wis wife, Georgi

GETS 15 Years in SLAYING HERE
Wayne Lear, 27 year old resident of the Clifty section of North Tod
d, dr ew a sentence of 15 years in prison here today in connection with t
he fat al shooting of a Fort Campbell soldier at a Hopkinsville bar on Au
gu st 4, 1956.
A jury deliberated the case for approximately an hour and 10 minutes be
fo re finding the defendant guilty of voluntary manslaughter. The sent
en ce on this charge could have run from 2 to 21 years in prison.
Lear was indiccted on a wilful murder charge in connection with the d
ea th last year of 21--year old Sgt. Raymond J. Hallford, member of Com
pa ny D of the 327th Airborne Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, at an Ea
st S eventh Street Bar. The manslaughter charge included in the instructi
ons.
Lear left the scene after the shooting and succeeded in eluding road bl
oc kades set up to stop him. He was taken into custody several days late
