Franklin Price Basham was born September 19, 1852 in Ray County, Misso
ur i, the youngest child of Nathan Basham and Elizabeth Campbell Bas
ha m. He grew up in the same house in which he was born. On April 12, 1
87 4, he married Frances Octavia Griffey. Frank and Tavey as they were ca

When Frank's parents died, Frank inherited the old home place whe
re he w as born and raised his own family at that location. He and his wi
fe lat er lived at various locations southeast of Cowgill. On July 30, 19
19 whi le they were liv- ing on a farm near Cowgill, Frank and two of h
is sons h ad been putting fresh hay in the barn loft. At the end of the d
ay after t he sons left, a storm came up and lightning struck the barn set
ting it a nd the hay on fire. While Frank was hurriedly carrying harness a
nd other i tems from the burning barn he suffered a heart attack and fe
ll dead insi de the barn. His wife and daughter-in-law Dora Basham dragg
ed his body o ut of the burning barn. Franklin and Octavia are both buri
