Charles Edward Basham 
Charles Edward was born on November 12th, 1912 in Wichita, Sedgwick Co., Kansas.1 Charles Edward's father was David Walker Basham and his mother was Katherine Genevieve Daily. His paternal grandparents were Nathan Claiborne Basham and Helen Josephine Haddock. He had five brothers named David Walker, Jr., Francis Claiborne, John Henry, James Joseph and George Leo. He was the third youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 68 on November 25th, 1980 in Pomona, California.1 General Notes

DR. CHARLES BASHAM
Dr. Charles E. Basham of Pomona died Tuesday morning in Pomona V
al ley Community Hospital, where he was dean of the medical staff.
Dr. Basham had been a physician and surgeon in Pomona for t
he pa st 34 years. He was born Nov. 16, 1912, in Wichita , Kan., the s
on of a me dical doctor and one of six brothers, all of whom became M.D.'s
.
Dr. Basham took pre-med training at the University of Wichit
a, a nd graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1
93 7. He interned at St. Louis, Mo., City Hospital and his residency in su
rge ry was at Missouri Pacific Hospital, also in St. Louis.
Dr. Basham came to Pomona to become a family practition
er in 19 46 after service as a medical officer in the Army Medical Cor
ps in World W ar II. He served in England as chief of general surgery f
or the 34th Ar my General Hospital. He remained in the Army Reserves aft
er the war and w as discharged in 1953 as a lieutenant colonel.
He was president of Pomona Valley Branch of Los Angeles County M
ed ical Association in 1954, and in 1956 was chief of staff of Pomona Val
ey C ommunity Hospital. For a number of years he was chief of the medic
al secti on of Pomona Civil Defence.
At one time Dr. Basham was chairman of the professional sec
ti on of the Pomona Community Chest campaign, and he served as chairm
an of t he professional practices committee of the Pomona Visiting Nurs
es Associat ion. He was a Fellow of General Practice for more than 20 year
s. He w as a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pomona and belong
ed to the Kn ights of Columbus.
Dr. Basham leaves his wife, Helen; two daughters, Barbara Par
so ns and Martha Lewis, both of Pomona; a son, Charles Basham Jr. of Clare
mon t; a brother Dr. James Basham of Fort Scott Kan.; and six grandchildre
n.
A vigil service will be held Friday at 8 p.m. in St. Joseph Chu
rc h. Funeral mass will be celebrated in the church Saturday at 10 a.m. Bu
ri al will will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may make memorial contr
ibu tions to the American Cancer Society. Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomo
na is in c harge of all arrangements.
