Berah Celesta (Bessie) was born on March 8th, 1877 in Lawrence Co., Tennessee.1 Berah Celesta (Bessie)'s father was James Monroe, Jr. Bassham and her mother was Susan Frances Legg. Her paternal grandparents were James Monroe Bassham and Arta M. Holloway. She had four brothers named Rufus Lycurgus, Aramantha, Felix Edward and Warren Poindexter. She was the second youngest of the five children. She had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Hiram C., Levi Johnson, James Richard and Martha Elizabeth. She died at the age of 94 on June 11th, 1971.1 General Notes
