Her paternal grandparents were Harmon Holcombe Allen and Sarah Frances Modisette. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Warren Dewey, James Byron, Anna Mae Ella and Nellie Faye Charlotte. She was the second youngest of the five children. She died at the age of 73 on June 8th, 1979 in Lufkin, Angelina Co., Texas.
