Robert M. Alexander 
Robert M. was born on August 18th, 1831 in Henry Co., Virginia.1 Robert M.'s father was Joseph Alexander and his mother was Sarah Watkins Bouldin. His maternal grandparents were Richard Bouldin and Elizabeth Moseley. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Richard B., Milton Ingram, Thomas Tyler, Joseph,Jr., Martha Bouldin and Margaret. He has two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Fayette Wood, Hugh Nelson, Ann Clark and Sarah Martin.General Notes

A Native of Cumberland County, in boyhood received a common school educa
ti on in the neighborhood schools of Cumberland County, attending a high s
cho ol in Alabama one five month's term. His education is the result of ho
me s tudy, and close application after he had left school. In 1852 he beg
an t he study of medicine, under the preceptorship of Dr. T. Q. Walk
er of Haski nsville, Green County, and in the fall of 1853 began attendi
ng the lectur es at the University of louisville, graduating there in t
he spring of 185 5. He then began the pratice of his profession , in partn
ership with D r. J. H. Cheek, which he continued until 1861. at this ti
me he became assi stant surgeon of the Fifth Cavalry( Federal service); b
ut on account of i ll health of his family was compelled to resign and ret
urn home. He then b egan the practice on his own account in Burkesville, w
hich, with the excep tion of four years residence in Louisville, he contin
ued since. In 18 74 he removed to Louisville and remained until 1879 , wh
en on account of f ailing health, he returned to Burkesville, and re-enter
ed the practice the re.
