General Notes

Joseph and Julia Ann were married by her father, Reverand Landon Duncan.
From a letter dated June 12, 1933 from the War Department a brief histo
of Joseph Hare's service in the Confederate Army: "The records of this
office show that Joseph Hare, private, Wise Legion Virginia Artillery,
Confederate States Army, enlisted May 26, 1861, at Giles Courthouse,
Virginia. This Company was reorganized May 1, 1862, and he subsequently
became a private of Company D, Stark's Battalion Confederate Light
Artillery, Confederate States Army. He was discharged September 17,
1862, by reason of disability. His personal description is recorded as
follows: Born in Giles County, Virginia, age 42 years, 6 feet, 1 inch
high, dark complexion, black eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a farmer.
