Gilbert was born on May 10th, 1291 in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, England.1 Gilbert's father was Gilbert "Sir" De Clare and his mother was Joan Plantagenet. His paternal grandparents were Richard "Sir" de Clare and Maud de Lacie. He had a brother and three sisters, named *son, Margaret, Elizabeth and Alianore. He had two half-sisters named Elizabeth and Isabel. He died at the age of 23 on June 24th, 1314.1 General Notes
