Eliza was born in 1872 in Illinois.  Eliza's father was JOSEPH Giertz and her mother was Emma Studiman.  Her paternal grandparents are JOSEPH GIERTZ and MARY KIPPERT. She had four brothers and five sisters, named John H., Charles M., Frank John, WILLIAM H., Emma O., Elizabeth L., Minnie Mary, Laura and Sophia.  She is the fourth oldest of the ten children.
