John was born on May 27th, 1770 in Augusta (Tygart Valley) or Rockingham County, Virginia.1   John's father was Isaac Wood and his mother was Rachel Ramey.  His paternal grandfather is UNKNOWN Wood. He had six brothers and three sisters, named James, Daniel, Joel, William, Isaac, Jacob, Elizabeth, Suzanna and Ann.  He was the fourth oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 94 in 1864 in Vermillion County, Illinois.  He was buried in 1864 in Fairchild Cemetery, N. of Danville, Illinois.2 3 


John's first family with Ann Elizabeth Harper

‌John and Ann Elizabeth were married in a religious ceremony on June 4th, 1793 in Pendleton County, (West) Virginia.4   They had eleven sons and a daughter, named Absolom, Henry, Solomon, Enoch, John, Zebulon, Jacob, Caleb, Joshua, Noah, David and Phebe.


John's second family with Mary Hornbeck

‌John and Mary were married in a religious ceremony on August 3rd, 1818 in Tygart River Valley, Beverly, West Virginia.3   They had three sons and three daughters, named Daniel, Ambrose, Joel, Martha, Mary and Elizabeth.
