Mary SCARBOROUGH 
Mary was born on August 8th, 1695 in Solebury TWP., Bucks Co., PA. Mary's father was John, Jr. SCARBOROUGH and her mother was Mary Farr PIERSON. Her paternal grandparents were John SCARBOROUGH and Sarah ASHBY; her maternal grandparents are Robert PIERSON and Mary JANNEY. She had three brothers and four sisters, named William, John, Robert, Elizabeth, Susannah, Hannah and Sarah. She died at the age of 91 on January 10th, 1787 in Frederick Co., VA.General Notes

99. "Visiting Friends" - A Joseph Lupton was one of the early treasurers
of Hopewell Meeting. He was probably the one who, even in the midst of a
bloody war, did not fear the Indian enough to pull in the sneck-string of
his door at night. Concerning him Henry W Scarborough, lawyer and
business man of Philadelphia, under date of Nov 3, 1934, writes: "My
Ancestor, Joseph Lupton, came from Yorkshire, England, and settled near
Newtown, Bucks Co., PA., wherehe married Mercy Twining, dau of Stephen
Twining. Stephen Twining and his father had emigrated from Eastham,
Barnstable Co., on Cape Cod, MA, about 1700 to Bucks Co.,PA. Subsequently
Joseph Lupton removed to Solebury TWP, Bucks Co., where he married the
widow of Samuel Pickering, whose maiden name was MaryScarborough. About
1742 Joseph Lupton and his said wife removed to FrederickCo.,VA., and
took along with them some of their own children and some of thechildren,
Pickerings and Luptons, by their first consorts...I think Joseph Lupton
was one of the early clerks [he was a treasurer] of the Hopewell Monthly
Meeting. I am descended form his eldest daughter, Elizabeth, who married
Henry Paxon Jr. Their daughter Sarah Paxon married Joseph Wilkinson of
Solebury TWP, Bucks Co., PA. Their daughter Elizabeth married Crispin
Pearson. Theirdaughter Mercy married Isaac Scarborough, whose son,
Watson Scarborough, wasmy father."
From the above showing Jospeh Lupton in 1757 was evidently an"ancient"
Friend p. 533. "Buckingham Records"
1730, 6mo 4, Joseph Lupton and Mary Pickering. widow, declare their
intention of marriage.
1741, 2mo 6. Joseph Lupton requests certificate for himself, wife, and
family to move to Hopewell. John Dawson and Thos. Canby Jr. to inquire.
1741, 3mo 4. Report favorableto Joseph Lupton and his son Joseph; they
also give a certificate.

- Dorcas Hobbs file 4 Jun 1979. In 1741, Jospeh Lupton, Mary and some of
the Pickering and Lupton ch removed to Fred. Co., VA which was then part
of Orange Co., VA. In VA, they were members of the Hopewell and Crooked
Run MM. In Virginia, the Pickerings and Luptons were members of the
Hopewell adn Crooked Run Monthly Meetings. Mary (Scarborough) Pickerings
Lupton died 14 o10 Jan 1787 Frederick Co., VA (She lists the children,
not copied here...wei Mary (Scarborough) Pickering and Joseph Lupton had
three known children:
1. Ann Lupton born 16 March 1733
2. Marcy Lupton born 16 March 1735
3. Jonathan Lupton born 1December 1739
