Ethel was born in 1924. Ethel's father was Charles Franklin Null and her mother is Hattie Durst. Her paternal grandparents were William Philip Null and Rebecca Caroline Cox. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Raymond, Dennis, Donald, Hartsel, Loraine, Lesley, Fern, Wenday and Velva.-
