John Chesley was born about 1880.1 John Chesley's father was Chesley P. McKee and his mother was Margaret "Maggie" G. Millen. His paternal grandparents were John McKee and Julia Posey. He had five brothers and two sisters, named David Millen, Wilbur Allen, Robert Nathaniel, Elmer E., Chesley Posey "Bud", Jennie June and Julia E. "Bess". He was the oldest of the eight children.
