Mary was born about 1703 in Chowan Precinct, North Carolina. Mary's father was Leonard LOFTIN and her mother was Elizabeth UNKNOWN. Her paternal grandparents were Ludwick Leonard LOFTIN and Elizabeth UNKNOWN. She had four brothers and seven sisters, named Cornelius, Cornelius, Leonard, Benoni, Jane, Joyce, Dorcellay, Jane, Mary, Joyce and Dorcelly. She was the youngest of the twelve children.
