The `1835 Revolutionary Pensions of Tennessee recorded that Richard Keele had received a pension starting 16 Apr. 1833 and would be receiving an annual allowance of $40.00. Richard was 76 years old. He died in 1849 in Bedford County, Tennessee. The Keeles were all prosperous with some of them owning several slaves as well as land.

BIOGRAPHY: Richard S. Keele was born in 1757, on the voyage from England to America. His father's name was Arthur Keele. Richard S. was for 7 (seven) years a soldier in the American Revolution. “It appears that Richard Keele enlisted in Henry County, Virginia, in the spring of 1776 in Capt. Jas. Lyons' and P. Harston's Company of Rangers. He served till July 19, 1777. After July, 1777, he married (Lydia Richmond) and removed to frontiers of North Carolina on Nolachucky River where he entered in Washington Co., a volunteer company under Samuel Williams which joined with Col. Sevier and was at the Battle of King's Mountain. He served here one month. He was [p.16] allowed pension on his application executed August 7, 1832, at which time he was seventy-four (74) years old and living in Rutherford County, Tennessee, with one of his sons.”
