Samuel and Eliza were married by William Workman, Justice of the Peace. Samuel was a merchant of a dry goods store and a farmer. In the 1850 census; Samuel age 45 Eliza age 41 Arthur age 18 Amos age 17 John age 14 Elizabeth age 13
Samuel died in 1863 while his sons, John, Samuel and Amos were serving in the Union Army.
In the Concord Church Cemetery in Centerville, Eliza's mother Elizabeth has an impressive tombstone with an inscription which reads: Goodness and mercy all my days has surely followed me, and in God's house forever more, my dwelling place shall be.
