William E. was born on November 4th, 1821 in Cannon, TN. William E.'s father was George Gannon and his mother was Joanna Whitt. His paternal grandparents were Perry Gannon and Esther Andrew; his maternal grandparents are Shadrack Whitt and Celey UNKNOWN. He had two brothers and four sisters, named John Porter, Samuel P, Nitha Ann, Rebecca, Roxanna and UNKNOWN. He was the third youngest of the seven children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named George Washington and Mary Ann. He died at the age of 77 on November 20th, 1898 in , Cannon, Tennessee.
