His paternal grandparents were Noah GRANT and Susannah DELANO. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Soloman, Peter, Noah Bean, John Kelly, Roswell Miller, Susan A., Margaret Moody and Rachel Maria. He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
