His paternal grandparents were Philippe De LANNOY and Hester DEWSBURY; his maternal grandparents were Nathaniel WARREN and Sarah WALKER. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Jabez, Nathan, Nathaniel, Jethro, Thomas, Sarah, Mary, Bethiah, Susanna and Esther. He was the oldest of the eleven children.
