Gilbert 'The Red Earl' was born on September 2nd, 1243 in , Christchurch, Hampshire, England.1   Gilbert 'The Red Earl''s father was Richard De CLARE and his mother was Maud De LACY.  His paternal grandparents were Gilbert De CLARE and Isabel MARSHALL; his maternal grandparents were John De LACY and Margaret De QUINCY. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Thomas De, Bevis (Bogo) (Benet) De, Robert (Richard) De, Isabel De, Margaret De, Maud De, Roese (Rohesia) De and Eglentine De.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 52 on December 7th, 1295 in , Monmouth Castle, Monmouthshire, England.  He was buried on December 22nd, 1295 in Abbey, Tewksbury, Gloucestershire, England.

‌Gilbert 'The Red Earl' and Joan "of Acre" were married in a religious ceremony on April 30th, 1290 in Westminister Abbey, Westminster, Middlesex, England.1   They had a son and three daughters, named Gilbert de, Eleanore, Margaret and Elizabeth de.
