Matilda (Maud) was born in 1162 in Boulogne, France.  Matilda (Maud)'s father was Matthew I Count Of Flanders and her mother was Mary Countess Of Boulogne.  Her paternal grandparents were Thierry II (Dietrich Ii) Count Of Flanders and Sybila Mabirie D'anjou; her maternal grandparents were Stephen UNKNOWN and Mathilda Countess Of Boulogne. She had two sisters named Judith and Ida.  She was the youngest of the three children.  She died at the age of 49 in 1211 in Louvain, France.

‌Matilda (Maud) and Henry were married in a religious ceremony in 1179.  They had three sons and four daughters, named Godfrey, Marle, Henry, Marie, Marguerite, Adelaide (Alix) and Matilda (Mechtild).
