Jeanne was born about 1256 in <, Valenciennes, Nord, France>.1 Jeanne's father was Jean I d'Avesnes and her mother was Amice Burgundy. Her paternal grandparents were Bouchard De Avesnes and Marguerite De Flandres; her maternal grandparents were Floris IV Burgundy and Mathilde de Brabant. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Jean II, Baudouin, Bouchard, Guy, Guillaume, Floris, Elizabeth de and Marguerite. She was the second youngest of the nine children.
