JOHN DE ST. JOHN, son and heir, was aged "at least 18" in 1214; custody was granted to his kinsman, Geoffrey de Lucy, son of Richard de Lucy the Justiciar. In 1225 he was engaged in escorting the Fifteenth collected in Oxon to Oxford, and was appointed a Justice to take assizes of novel disseisin &c., and again in 1228. In or before 1228 he was knighted.
He married Emma and died some time before 2 January 1229/30. By December 1231 his widow had married, 2ndly, Geoffrey LE DESPENSER (died 1251], of Arnesby, co. Leicester, and Martley, co. Worcester (younger son of Thomas LE DESPENSER, and great uncle of Hugh, 1st LORD DESPENSER, by whom she was mother of John le Despenser. She held Stanton St. John and Swallowfield in dower.
