He [John de St. John] married Emma and died some time before 2 January 1229/30. By December 1231 his widow had married, 2ndly, Geoffrey LE DESPENSER (died 1251], of Arnesby, co. Leicester, and Martley, co. Worcester (younger son of Thomas LE DESPENSER, and great uncle of Hugh, 1st LORD DESPENSER, by whom she was mother of John le Despenser. She held Stanton St. John and Swallowfield in dower. She was living November 1265, and possibly 8 November 1270. [Complete Peerage XI:347-8, XIV:564, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
Note: I had Emma originally as daughter of Richard de Harcourt & Orabella de Quincy, but given the date that Magna Charta Sureties has given for Richard's birth date (1202), I have made her a daughter of Richard, brother of William de Harcourt (William was father of the who Richard m. Orabella de Quincy). MCS may be wrong about Richard's birth date. CP, in its chart on page IV:260, does show that Emma is daughter of a "Richard Sire d'Harcourt".
