Philippe was born about 1666 in Grand Pré, Acadie, Canada.1   Philippe's father was Pierre Melanson and his mother was Marie Marguerite Anne Mius d'Entremont.  His paternal grandparents were Pierre Laverdure and Priscilla Mallinson; his maternal grandparents were Phillippe Mius d'Entremont and Madeleine Hélie-DuTillet. He had a brother and two sisters, named Pierre, Isabelle and Jean Dominique.  He was the oldest of the four children.  He died on June 24th, 1744 in Grand Pre, Acadie, Canada.  He was buried on June 24th, 1744 in St. Charles, Mines, Acadie, Canada.1 1

‌Philippe and Marie were married in a religious ceremony about 1695 in Grand Pré, Acadie, Canada.1   They had three sons and nine daughters, named Joseph, Phillipe, Pierre, Marguerite, Madeleine, Angelique, Marie, Angelique, Marguerite, Marguerite Josephe, Marie-Josephe and Anne-Marie.
