Tjerck was born in Rochester, Ulster Co., NY and his baptism took place on July 3rd, 1698 in Kingston NY.1 Tjerck's father was Jacob Dewitt and his mother was Grietje Vernoy. His paternal grandparents were Tjereck Claessen Dewitt and Barbara Andriessen; his maternal grandparents were Cornelis Cornelissen Vernoy and Annatje Cornelissen. He was an only child.
