Margaret was born about 1217 in Buchan Aberdeenshire Scotland.1 Margaret's father was William Earl of Buchan Comyn and her mother was Margaret Colhan. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Comyn and Hextilda Fitzuctred of Tynedale; her maternal grandfather was Fergus Earl of Buchan. She had a brother and a sister, named Alexander and Elizabeth.
