Robert de was born about 1020 in , Mortagne-au-Perchey, Orne, France.1   Robert de's father was Harlevin de Conteville and his mother was Herleve de Mortaigne. He had a brother and three sisters, named Odo de, Muriel de, Emma de and Mathilde de.  He was the oldest of the five children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Robert II de, Guillaume de, Adelaide and Godiva de.  He died on December 8th, 1090 in , Mortain, Manche, France.  He was buried in December 1090 in Grestain Abbey, Mortain, Manche, France.1 1
