J.L. Chester 1888, New England Genealogical Society Register vol. 38,
pp. 289-299. John of the Hayle (a part of the manor of Wivelsgate,
Wendover, Buckinghamshire), brother and overseer of the will of
Richard Baldwin 1552/3. John's will dated 12 March 1564/5, proven 2
March 1565/6 in Archdeaconry Court of Buckinghamshire by son George.
Named in will were children Nicholas Baldwin, granted houses and
lands in Great Missenden and the Lee, and a tenement in Wendover;
Silvester Baldwin, bequeathed Lord's Grove in Wendover and lands in
Aston Clinton called Pleadells, also executor and overseer of the
estate, to go to his son John after his death; Richard Baldwin, 20;
Robert Baldwin 10; Thomas Baldwin, a horse; and George Baldwin, the
remainder of the estate. John's wife apparently pre-deceased him.
A.V. Woodman 1959, New England Genealogical Society Register 113, 245-
248. John Baldwin of the Hale, a part of the manor of Wivelsgate and
not the unrelated manor house of the same name. This passed to
John's son George. 1549, John Baldwin stated that that he was aged
59. Probably the John Baldwyn who did fealty for lands in Bellingdon
at the court of 22 October 1523. 1530, fined 2d for default. Died
before 29 April 1566. He owned a tenement and various properties
called Moryns (Mooring's) in Bellenden. Will of John Baldwyn of the
Hayle dated 12 March 1564/5 and named blood cousin John Baldwyn, age
13 and nearest kinsman, to be heir. Court papers show it unclear how
much land was owned freely and how much was held by custom of the
manor. (The 125 acres of Mooring's was sold by John Baldwin of
Dagnall, gentleman, and his son Thomas Baldwin of Chesham, yeoman, to
William Putnam of Cholesbury in 1616.) In spite of the designation
cousin, this is probably John's grandson by his son John. Children
named in will, each to receive 4d:
1) Nicholas, to also inherit house and lands in Great Missenden, the
Lee, and Wendover;
2) Silvester, to receive lands in Wendover and Aston Clinton, and to
act as overseer of the will;
3) Richard, 20;
4) Robert, 10;
5) Thomas, a horse;
6) Alis Gery (assumed to be a daughter), 20s;
7) George, eldest (surving) son, three half acres and the remainder
of the estate.
Also named was John Baldwyn of Lynslad, given various items and the
lease of the manor of Cholesbury. This John was a grandson, son of
John.
A bequest of 20s to Margery Bachyllar's children was deleted from the
will; she is assumed to be a second daughter. Will proved 2 March
1565/6.
P.H. Haselton 1989, The English Ancestry of Joseph and Sylvester

Baldwyn of Chollesbury to obtain possesion of a messuage of 80 acres
of land, 10 acres of pasture, 10 acres of wood, and their
appurtenances in Belyngdon, Assherigge, and Chartrigge.
