Winfield Scott was born on September 22nd, 1850 in Orange County or Crawford County,Indiana. Winfield Scott's father was Benjamin Neal Sloan and his mother was Mary Ann Sands Douthit. His paternal grandparents were Archibald Sloan and Leannah Bolling; his maternal grandparents were Benjamin Douthit and Maria Riley. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Silas W., Archibald Franklin, Elmer Elsworth, Edward, Oliver Howard, Haden Finley, Clarissa Ellen, Rebecca Ann, Lidda Martha, Leannah Caroline and Mary Belle. He was the second oldest of the twelve children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named William Harrison, John Eads and Janette (Jennett). He died at the age of 72 on February 18th, 1923. He was buried in Crawford Co. Cem. Indiana.-
