Matilda was born about 1041 in France.1 Matilda's father was Roger De Montgomery Vicomte and her mother was Mabel de Belleme, Dame d'Alencon. Her paternal grandparents were Roger I De Montgomery and Josceline De PONTEAUDEMER; her maternal grandparents were William II Talvas and Hildeburge de Beaumont. She had nine brothers and three sisters, named Robert II , Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger, Robert de Alencon, Hughes , Earl of Shrewsbury, Philip, Roger "The Poitevin", Roger , Count of La Mar, Maurice, Arnulf, Maud, Emma , Abbess of Almen and Sybil.
