Pietro's father was Otto Maurienne Graf Savoy Count of Savoy and his mother was Adelaida, Contessa di TORINO. His paternal grandparents were Humbert I Aux-Blanche Mains De Savoy and Auxilla (Von Lenzberg) Noyen; his maternal grandparents were Ulric Manfred II Turin Count of Susa and Bertha (of Italy) of Este.
