Louis II King of Italy was born about 0822 in Alsace-Lorraine,Fance.1 Louis II King of Italy's father was Lothaire I of Italy and his mother was Empress Ermengarde Tours Countess of. His paternal grandparents were Louis I "The Pious" France King of and Ermengarde de Hesbaye; his maternal grandparents were Hugues III Count Of Upper Alsace and Ava Alsace. He had three brothers and eleven sisters, named Louis, Charles, King of Lorraine "The Carolingian", Valtrude, Rothilde of, Ermengarde Duchess of, Ermengarde Princess of, Bertha, Abbess of, Princess Irmgard of Roman, Rotrud Princess of, Gisle Princess Of, Rotrude, Helletrude De and Gerberga of. He had eight half-brothers and ten half-sisters, named Carloman, Welf, Welf Count Of, Konrad II Comte, Conrad II, Hugo, Eudes King Of, Robert I King of, Eve or Berthe, Eve Or Berthe D', Judith, Judith of, Adalgunde, Burgundy, Adele (Adelaide) of, Bertha, Regilinde and Oda. AKA: Louis II, Emperor of the West. Also Known As: Louis "Le Jeune".Born: in 825, son of Lothaire I, Emperor of the West and Ermengarde deTours. Note - between 844 and 875: Louis II was crowned King of theLombards (Italy) by Pope Sergius II in 844 and remained King until hisdeath in 875. He became Emperor of the Occident on Easter Sunday in 850.Upon the death of his brother, Charles de Provence, Louis II's Kingdom isenhanced by Provence and the Northern part of Charles' Kingdom. When hisremaing brother, Lothar II dies in 869, leaving no male heir, Louis IIwould have gotten the remaining lands, but his rights were stronglycontested by his uncles Charles le Chauve and Louis le Germanique. InItaly, he fought with some success in alliance with the Papacy againstthe Sarracens from whom he took Bari. His daughter, Ermengarde, becameQueen of Provence through her marriage with Boson. Married in 851:Engelberge de Spolete, daughter of Erchanger, Count d'Alsace.
Died: on 8 Dec 875 in Brescia, Italy, Some sources indicate that Louis IIdied on 12 August 875. He deeded his Kingdom to Louis le Germanique'sson, Carloman.
